I don't understand how anyone can TRULY defend the war on drugs after they see these types of statistics. The U.S. has MORE of a percentage of their citizens in prison than any other country now, and it's DIRECTLY because of the war on drugs. Sickening!
I don't care if meth and heroin can destroy lives--throwing people in prison CERTAINLY destroys lives, and since so many of them are in prison for marijuana, it really boggles my mind that people can still somehow support this ridiculous war against the people.
I've been for drug legalization since WAY before I ever did weed, since I was in high school. It doesn't make sense to regulate people's lives like that.
How much higher of a percentage of our population needs to be in jail before people REALLY start to realize how ridiculous this war on the people is?

I recently had the opportunity to tour the county jail in my area. It was the first time that I had ever been inside a county jail or any other place where people were incarcerated. That was definitely and eye-opening experience for me. The lady that gave me the tour explained about the overcrowding problems. The cells were very small. On some days, that particular jail is housing almost double its capacity in inmates. After leaving the facility, I also spent some time on the county jail's website doing a little research. To my surprise, many of the inmates were arrested for non-violent offenses, like drug charges.

Yeah, it's just nuts to me. How are we going to keep affording this? It would seem to me that this will be or even already IS more of a drain on the economy than the war in Iraq.
