So over at OTL people are talking firewalls. But I can't seem to find a site which compares and concludes which is the best.
Is Zone Alarm the best?
McAfee?
And Kizzume, what is the name of that special McAfee firewall you use? Is that the best?

As an aside
I still stand by A-squared's ability to detect the bad stuff.

I don't use a software firewall--my router is my firewall at this time, but it isn't actually that secure, unfortunately
Visnetic firewall is the best one that I know of. My brother has been using it for quite a while. It's really great, actually. There's a free trial for it too.

This is NOT, I repeat, NOT for those that don't understand how this sort of thing works. This firewall program is pretty much for experts only. If, for instance, you block the wrong IP range, you can really mess things up. This program has the potential to make the computer run like crap if you don't TRULY know what you're doing.
My brother wanted to make that VERY clear, as I just asked him what the name of the program he uses is.

I need to stick with something simple. Thanks for the idea though.
I am suprirsed you don't have one, Kizzume. You know, WG and others were talking up Zonealarm, which is free!

Because of my router, firewall software isn't very effective on my computer.
What I really SHOULD be doing more often is booting up to my Linux partition and web surfing with that.

UPDATE:
Zone Alarm kicks total ass! As soon as I got rid of McASSee my computer was running way faster and smoother. Zone alarm seems to take up way less resources. Now I am supposedly hidden on the internet from hackers, and so far I haven't detected ANY spywares on my computer since the switch. Yeeeeehaaaaaaa!
As for Linux, I plan on switching very soon, maybe this weekend. I still have to clean out my office and setup my new computer which I hope to do soon. When I do this I plan on transfering everything to my new computer, hooking my stereo system up to it and using it for games and pro tools. At that point I will then take this computer, and switch it to linux and make it my internet computer.
But dude, I almost don't need linux anymore. I can't believe how well zone alarm is working so far. It is still in "beta" mode with me though, as I don't approve a new security program until after it has been vigoriously tested.
On a side note, what is the deal with windows firewall? In my advanced options I can hve it blocked or unblocked. What is the benefit of blocking it vs. having it? I am confused on whether or not it woudl get in the way or make my comptuer even more secure. I had it ON while using mcafee, and was getting spywares all the time.....
