I have always wanted to get into one of these. My brother talks them up all the time. Is IV the newest one? Would I need to play the others first or can I just jump right in?

What's so much different about this version than other versions? Is it the fact that it's multiplayer online, and the graphics?
The early versions of this game I had a hard time getting into, it reminded me a lot of the gameplay style of--let's say--command and conquer--but I don't know--my tastes have changed quite a bit over the past 4 or 5 years, so maybe I could get into this one....

lol funny you should mention it. I have been playing CIVILIZATION 2-- lol-- and loving the hell out of it. I get way into these sort of games. I also love command and conquer and there is probably a host of other games like this. I am sure it has come a long way since number two but since I haven't put my new computer together yet I doubt it would work on my current computer. I may give it a shot soon though. Or maybe I will just stick with this one and then when I get tired of it go to number 3. Might as well get as much out of the whole series as I can ;p.

Just looked it up. Turns out the requirements, even for the newest one, are pretty small. Gotta love strategy games. I am going to probably buy this game some time within the next week and then I will totally whoop your ass on it
Consider me possible person to play this game with

I've been playing CIV 3 for the last 4 1/2 hours. ZOMG this game is addicting!
Just got CIV 4, too. I haven't installed it yet.
I didn't realize until I started playing CIV 3 that we would really want to form an alliance! That would increase our chances of winning online way, way better. I just went through one civilization that just had bad placing and not enough resources. I was surroudned by other coutnries and it was hopeless. My second time through though I am whooping ass. I am the ZULU tribe and I have an alliance with America against Egypt.
Egypt just requested a treaty, so I added that they give me their technology in return, and they accepted. lol. Those silly bastards.
I am doing sooooo much better this time than last. I think I am starting to figure out how to beat this game ;p.
But online. Now that ought to be interesting. I would definitely want an alliance with you!

Options. There are hundreds of interesting challenges and it's just more complex. You can win the game without building one warrior. I don't recommend it, but it can be done.

It's interesting. I love the game. I haven't played online yet so I have no idea how that would work, but just setting here at the house playing is fun enough.

What? How do you do that? I am going to take a guess. Manipulative diplomacy. That is, creating friends and then waging war with an enemy that is closer to your friend than you, and then creating an alliance and letting them duke it out.
But still, you would still be left with at least one other civilization. So come on friend, do tell! HOW DO YOU win without creating a warrior?
MIssiles? Honestly I haven't developed the nuke yet but in number 2 I did and it was pretty disapointing. Not enough damage!

You definitely don't need the others. IT would take a while to figure everything out-- and at first it would seem very annoying-- but after abotu a half hour you'd start to pick it up real good and in about 3 you'd have it well enough figured out to strategize.
IV is the newest.

It's called a cultural victory. Without building warriors, you can make peace with those around you and just out research/build them. The game that I most recently played, I had two stronger (in terms of military) nations become vassal states.

Nice. I hadn't reached the end yet so I was unsure. What difficulty do you play at?
