I was thinking of putting this on OTL, too.
I can't help but notice that there are dozen of security programs available for pc. By that I mean spyware scanners. I am wondering-- how do these get made? Would it be possible for us to design a "Kizzume anti-malware" or is it really hard to do this sort of design?
I was thinking of posting it on OTL and seeing if NPH would want to help, too. That would of course make it a "Ontheleft Anti-malware" program, but I would be fine with that.
Probably just silly talk on my end. I have no idea how this sort of program gets created and how the security definitions are established. I'd love to know if it is possible though!

It really takes a lot of deep-rooted knowledge--it's definitely NOT something that just an everyday person could make, not even in the slightest.
One: One has to have access to databases that are constantly being updated as to where every type of spyware that is KNOWN puts their entries in the registry, where they put the files on one's computer, and how those entries get changed over the years as to try to get around being detected.
Two: One has to know how to create a program that can search the registry for those exact things and remove them WITHOUT potentially removing things that could mess up the system. That part, believe it or not, would be the easiest part. Making a program that searches the registry wouldn't be that tough and the same goes for a program that searches for files. The harder part about this step is the fact that some files actually get modified, not just new files added, and one would have to have the knowledge on how to create a program that can view the file as raw data and remove the offending raw data from the file, if that's possible at all--in some cases, the files get SO modified, or even fully replaced, that one has to have a database ready that can replace those kinds of files that got messed up.
Three: One would have to know how to make a program that can update itself and even re-install itself if enough changes have to be made to necessitate having a completely new version of the program.
Four: One would have to have a LOT of time on his or her hands to take on this kind of project--it would be something one would be having to work on on a constant basis.
In general--this is not something that would be possible unless someone wanted to revolve their life around the project for years to come. It's a huge undertaking.
