I think Dr. Phil is annoying most of the time.
It's mainly his smugness--like he thinks that everyone wants to be just like him. Maybe it's because he takes being professional too seriously?
I don't get why he's so stuck in 1996 though (or the cutting edge of 1994). It's strange.
To me, he's somewhat condescending to everyone he talks to because he seems to portray that he thinks he's better than everyone.
Occasionally he drops that attitude and seems like someone I could stand being around, which is why I did not say "Yes, always".
He's stuck in 1996--I don't get it. The biggest thing that bugs me about him is that he carries himself as if he's what everyone wants to be like. No, no I don't want to be like you Dr. Phil. No.
He's condescending in the way he talks to everybody--but because he's equally condescending to everyone, including Oprah, people seem to think he's cool. I don't get it. But then again--maybe that's why people like him--because he can get away with being condescending to ANYONE. There are people that make jestful ranks once in a while--that's fine. Dr. Phil talks down to everyone because he thinks that he's superior to them.
But this is purely my opinion.
Basically, he annoys me. A lot. Most of the time.

Another thing that has ALWAYS bothered me about Dr. Phillip is that he has that book about losing weight, and the man is tubby. What's next, a how to grow hair book? _________________ The Democratic Anthem: The American Dream is okay! Until you make $250,000. Then you're the devil.

Ha! I was going to bring that up myself. I find him always annoying. I try at all costs, to not even pay attention to him anymore. I was sick for a while, and had to reside with my grandmother for about a year. Every single day she would watch Oprah, and Dr. Phil, back to back. It made my head want to explode. I found that was the best time to try to sit in the backyard and gather my thoughts. lol. _________________ " The feeble tremble before opinion, the foolish defy it, the wise judge it, the skillful direct it." I much prefer Rachel Ray......having said that.......
This is a hard one to vote on, because I don't see the option that fits me. I need an option that says "about half of the time." That's okay, I will take "yes, occasionally." Here is how I feel about doctor Phil: I occasionally get pulled into his programming, and find it pretty interesting. I know nothing about his credentials or anything, but I do like his show setup, discussion forums, all that.
ON THE OTHER HAND
THe Dr. Phil house? WTF? I have noticed that in general Dr. Phil, probably in an effort to bolster higher ratings, has become a lot more sensationalist the past year or so. I don't dig sensationalism.
One other thing-- I particularly get annoyed with his commercials. They are just on ALL THE FREAKING TIME.
Having said that, I really do appreciate some of his programming, and occasionally am pulled in and will watch an entire episode, and find it to be somewhat worth it. But I usually much prefer something fictional and funny if I am going to watch tv, and dr. phil just doesn't have a sense of humor at all if you ask me!

See this is what I am talking about. TOtal bs. The problem is when someone gets successful, especially in this sort of field, they think it gives them a license to be a know-it-all, and speak on terms they really just have no place in talking about.
Well, that someone is fat, but has written a book about how to lose weight, doesn't necessarily mean the information is incorrect. It just means he's a hypocrite. It could, however, be that it's wrong. _________________

I guess I just can't stand his attitude.
Richard Simmons is kind-of pudgy, and he irritates me, but for completely different reasons. He doesn't act like he's god's gift to the world. He's actually funny sometimes. --and sometimes as I'm laughing at or with him I feel sorry for him, like when David Letterman played a joke on him:
Dr. Phil lies to women about men. He gives bad advice by telling them exactly what they want to hear but not about what men are actually like.
I agree with that. I've never been able to word it very well, but that says it well.
According to wikipedia,
Quote:
Ethical violation
After being reprimanded by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists for an "inappropriate dual relationship" with a therapy client in 1988, McGraw was required to take ethics classes in order to continue his private practice in Texas. McGraw admits to giving the client a "job" at his office (which is not allowed), but denied carrying on a sexual relationship with the 19 year old, who says their relationship was "sexually inappropriate."
Um, I don't think I need to say any more about him.

Don't know if you are aware or not, but he was actually investigated by the FTC for a supplement he used to have on the market that claimed it would psychologically make you not want to eat anymore. He pulled it off the market....but was later sued by people who used it with no results, and paid out $10 million. Funny how the press doesn't report on this, since it was only a year ago this happened.
Kizzume, I decided to look into Dr. Phil's history after the comments were made on that page, because they appeared to be somewhat slanderous. Alas, they are not. He really did have a 19 year old mistress that he cheated on his wife on.
All of this information is openly available, and I got mine from his wikipedia page
