Getting Ready to Grow up

Okay, so I graduate in May! Yay! A bachelors degree and it only took me 8 years! I shouldn't have taken those 5 years off to drink. I would have been in a much better place.... Well, whats done is done. Now I'm having a panic attack! This means that it's time for me to grow up and be a big boy. That means getting a job and blah blah blah blah....

I mean, it's not like I haven't been out on my own. I just didn't much care for it. No so much the responsibility, but the loneliness. Soooooo... I'm thinking about moving to Dallas. I know I can get a good if not great paying job there. The deal is this... I want to take my best friend and his boyfriend with me. Love them. And really they need a break. Both need to go back to school to finish their degrees. I should be able to move than afford to have them live with me. As long as they pay for their bills, I can handle the apartment and it's costs.

I guess the deal is this, do I ask them if they want to move with me? I mean, I wouldn't want to offend them. I don't want them to think that they couldn't do it on their own, but I look at it this way. Them moving with me helps me out. It gives me someone to come home to and a ready-made family so to speak. So we both could benefit.

What do you think?

Is Dallas the place you really want to live? It definitely is a good place to get work.

I'm a southern boy at heart. I thought about San Francisco (what gay man hasn't) but it's too... Well too. Seattle is too far away from home as is Portland. Same is true with New York, Boston, Washington D.C. and the like. I don't like hurricanes so Miami is out along with Houston and New Orleans. Austin is a bit too liberal for my liking if you can believe that. Dallas seems to be the logical choice. It's effectively the cultural capital of the South. You've got theater, good concerts, sports teams, a thriving gay community, and the majority of fortune 500 companies have at least a regional headquarters there.

I guess I just don't have the heart to move too far away from the parents. They drive me batty, but I love em. And my grandmother... She's not quite old enough to draw social security, but I'm always afraid that something would happen and I couldn't get back. I mean, I would move them (my family) but they wouldn't come. They are too attached to the rural life. I guess in part I'm attached to it as well.

Dallas is not a bad place to live. It's a little segregated at points, but it definitely was a good experience for me. I was able to get work there right away.

To me, it's everything great about Texas. It's where dirt roads meet downtown. You see pickups parked by BMW's, and it's like the most natural thing you've ever seen. I've never had much luck outside of the South. I open my mouth and people automatically assumed that I lacked an education. Overcoming the thick Texas accent is something that I've tried to do, but the truth is I deal better in that home-spun sort of environment.

And besides, cowboys are hot. Very Happy
