How do you feel about gun control?

I think people should be able to get any type of firearm, since they're going to anyway. It's how things are used that it becomes a problem, to me.

The old , guns do not kill people, people do. This is an emotional issue that usually digresses into name calling.

The thing about this subject, for me, is that there is no way we can get guns out of the hands of criminals without declaring the type of martial law that would utterly destroy this country. If there was some magical way, I'd be for getting rid of guns, but since there isn't, I am against the idea of gun control.

I will have to agree with you. But imo they need to be totally banned. I realize that is just an opinion and I will let it go at that. However, I find it interesting that with the wealth of opinions here, that you and I are the only ones willing to discuss it.

Ok, I might have a little bit of a different opinion on this one. I believe that guns should not be outlawed. But, I think that every single person that gets one, should have to go through an extensive background check. We have a few guns of our own. My husband is a competition shooter. He also uses guns on a daily basis in his job as a gunner for a .50 cal sniper rifle in the military. I have one here in the house for protection purposes only. I have had a break in before, and hid in a closet, it is not something I ever intend on doing again. With that said, I think that even with hunting rifles, you should have to have an extensive background check. In NC you must have a permit to purchase a pistol, but not a rifle, or shotgun. To me, that is absolutely crazy. A gun, is a gun, is a gun if you ask me. Background checks should be done on every person trying to purchase any kind of firearm. I think that gun control is a must, but I do not think that they should not be owned by anyone at all. I would not feel as safe in my home, with my husband deployed for 15 months, if I did not have my pistol, just in case something happened. To me, it would be unfair to take away my right to own this pistol, because people in general are uncomfortable with guns. If you know how to use one, and respect the weapon, the chances of anything dangerous happens are actually very slim. I know my opinion is different, but that's what it is, my opinion. Just my 2 cents.

Having to get a background check is acceptable. Not my favorite, but it is certainly acceptable.

You know, I don't think that any of the options were great. I'm opposed to anyone owning machine guns/ sub-machine guns. I'm all for rifles and revolvers as they make sense for hunting/personal protection.

I'm generally opposed to the federal government becoming involved with the states rights to define the limitations of the law.

For the sake of argument--what about the people who just want to collect things that are like history/museum pieces?

Perhaps those things belong in a history museum instead of in the hands of private collectors. That is of course if they are to be like a history museum piece. Otherwise they are illegal and should be dismantled.

I'd like to agree with you, but I can't. Sad

To me, if we start banning some types of firearms, it's too easy to keep pushing onto more and more types. Maybe not--maybe there's a way to keep it at only a certain level. I don't know. ???

Emotionally I agree with you, logically I don't.

Kizz may know this about me - from the other forum (not to be mentioned or slammed here, out of respect for Kizz)

I am a Republican - but the gun thing drives me nuts.

I'm for background checks, waiting periods, and anything else that limits guns - I'm even up for a revision of the 2nd ammendment. Times have changed.
A "well regulated militia" ???? Please.

Assault rifles and handguns have been out of control for 30 years.
