Recently Senator Clinton has received some endorsements from well respected members of the LGBT community. Is this support an indication that we are backing the candidate who is most aligned with the needs of our community, or are we merely throwing our support behind the heir-apparent?

I think everything that Hillary Clinton says about anything is simply to get votes. She will keep her promises to the gay community just as good as her husband did.

debateman, it is my belief that there's only one candidate out there who truly supports the GLBT community. That candidate would be Dennis Kucinich, not Hillary.

Hillary supports civil unions for gay and lesbian couples but not full marriage rights. There is a huge difference, protection-wise, between civil union and civil marriage. Here are a link that details all the differences:

In my opinion, Hillary is pandering to the right by endorsing civil unions rather than marriage equality. After all, we already tried the "separate but equal" thing a few decades ago. As I recall, it didn't go over all that well.

That is correct. Kucinich IS the only one, sad but true.

I believe Gravel supports full marriage rights, too. If so, I stand corrected, debateman. Let me go check to make sure.....

I just checked - you were right, debateman. Smile Two candidates support marriage equality: Kucinich and Gravel.

I like Gravel better than Kucinich... I can't tell you why, but Dennis just creeps me out.

I was going to join the Navy until I saw a really hot sailor in uniform. Then I asked and told... *sigh*

Hillary pandering to the Right is useless, be sure of that.

Well her pandering on the left isn't working so hot in my opinion. As a registered Democrat, I'm going to be voting for the most conservative out of the bunch.

Governor Richardson...

Maybe, but Murdoch doesn't seem to think so.

Well, we can see how it's working out for her now. It isn't, and Obama is winning so far. Yeay!

Well, apparently, there are still a lot of gay people that believe that Hillary is somehow magically the answer. I don't get it. Didn't we learn after being burned the first time?

Quote:
Frank, as is his custom, emphasized that the fortunes of the LGBT community and of the Democratic Party are inextricably linked, dismissing Republican Mitt Romney as "synthetic" but warning that John McCain poses the greatest threat.

"We have an important role to play in this election," he told the crowd. "We in the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community need to work on changing the atmosphere of hate and fear that is sweeping this country. We need to improve the lives of all GLBT people and by working to elect Hillary Clinton for president, we can do it."
