I saw the midnight showing of I am legend.
So, how was it?
First off, let me say that the people at seattle times have absolutely no taste in good movies. None at all. Their reviews are as typical and disappointing as they come. Not only did they give the lakehouse 3.5/4 stars, but they have numerously given terrible reviews to good movies. Such is defintely the case with I am legend. They give it 1.5 stars? Who are these people and why are they paid money to write shitty reviews??!?!?
Well, Ebert got it a lot closer. He gave it 3/4 stars.
It was very very good. While there are certain cliche`s I may never understand about this 'type' of movie (namely, that when people get a disease in an apocalyptic kind of movie, it doesn't just kill them. It turns them into zombies with super strength, etc. I mean come on, I am not buying!), but that doesn't automatically cancel out the quality of a movie. What makes a great story is, and movie, is how well it runs with it, and how convincing it is. Also, how much you can relate with the main character, and feel with their pain? Despite a few cliche`s, I am Legend performs quite well.
The acting in 'I am Legend' is superb. AT first, I wasn't sure about it. I was skeptical. About 15 minutes in though, I was sold. Will Smith has an awesome performance. We are able to feel for his character, and be a part of his struggle. The film is often exciting and thrilling.
Let me also say, that the ending is perfect. Usually I can predict an ending, and am fairly disappointed with it. Not so with 'I Am Legend.' This movie tells a very good story that has the kind of ending that makes a good movie great.
Great acting, good drama, thrilling, interesting, and has a great ending. Did I mention I like it?
Something I have realized a lot lately is that a lot of movies are too long. Length is a big problem for me. There are a lot of movies which I would have called 'great' but then they just take too long at the end, there are all these twists and turns, and I get bored. I Am Legend however, was the perfect length.
4/4

I will keep this in mind. I am hoping to go to a couple movies over the next couple weeks. One will be the Golden Compass, and the other I think will be this one--I Am Legend. There are people who rank on Will Smith, and I just don't understand that--to me he's a great actor. If it wouldn't have been for Will Smith, Independence Day would have been utterly unwatchable. He is the ONLY thing that made that movie watchable. I'm glad to know he has continued his trend of superb acting.

The novel upon which the movie is based had people turning into vampire-like creatures from the disease. Neville spends his days staking them while searching for human life, and his nights barricaded in his house. When he finally realizes that he has been killing semi-normal people along with the undead, that he has become the thing in the night that preys upon people, that's where the horror of the story comes in. The tables have turned, and it is now Neville who is the monster, killing indiscriminately. By the time he realizes his mistake, it's too late and his life is forfeit. I don't know if I'll see the movie before reading the book, or at all since I'm currently unemployed. But I would recommend the Vincent Price vehicle Last Man On Earth, the first adaptation of the book.

I will probably see it, because I can synmpathise with Smith's character. It is how one feels at these early hours on forums......lol

No kidding. I feel bad about the fact that you and I have had very limited interaction even though we are both very prevalent posters. Its just that usually by the time I am on, you are off, and someone or a couple people have already replied to your posts, hehe.
