Saw this a couple nights ago and would have reviewed it, but the site was down.
Juno, if it counts as a 2007 movie, is one of the best I saw for that year. The soundtrack was spectacular, and added greatly to the fun but occasionally serious delivery. It really felt like a fresh experience, because:
*There were no typical hollywood twists near the end (which I am noticing in about 70% of hollywood movies these days)
*Nobody got murdered (How many movies have you seen where people don't die? It is another staple of hollywood that I can occasionally do without)
* There were no shock moments. (It seems that almost every movie these days has at least one element of horror in it. BORING.)
It was a straightfoward, witty story about a girl in high school getting pregnant, and deciding what to do about it. (Have an abortion? Keep it? Adopt it out?) But what really makes the movie is its delivery.
The delivery is spot on. The awesome soundtrack mixed with the visuals made this a sort of easy going, smoothly running movie.
The acting too was good. IT featured the guy an actor I've seen in Superbad, and I have never seen the girl in anything before.
In the end I felt for the characters pretty deeply. I really felt for a lot of people, which the film succeeded in doing. I had some feelings of high school nostalgia, dating nostalgia too, which gave it a sort of reflective feel.
Overall it was an excellent movie, refreshing in numerous ways, the characters were believable (and people I could identify with) and the best part? It was short and sweet.
Very seldom do I see a movie a second time in the theater. This will be one of them.
4/4

Excellent. Thanks for that review. It's good to know there are still some straightforward movies being made, without the fripperies one usually associates with Hollywood.

I really want to see this one - the young girl is nominated for a Golden Globe, and the buzz is she will get nominated for an Oscar, too. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. Thanks for the review.
