Earlier this week, the computer for my band's practice room and recording studio got hosed by spyware and malware--system files were replaced, it was just absolutely totally hosed. It even disabled the task manager.

We've been going to several people's myspace pages and adding people as friends--it seems that just GOING to people's pages can put spyware on one's system now. It's very disappointing.

I just needed to let people know this. Be careful of people's myspace pages--use NoScript for Firefox if you're going to look at a lot of people's myspace pages.

I noticed this myself long ago. IF you think about myspace, or, at least, from my perspective, THE WHOLE PLACE is spamville with a FEW real people in it. Here's what I mean: I get a request EVERY DAY for a new friend. Usually there are 2-4 requests per day. But they aren't real people! I click on the profile and it is an advertisement for PORNO.

There must be 1,000,0000 porn bots on myspace. Probably more porn boughts than ACTIVE members.

I'd agree that spam and spywares are rampant on myspace

I've just never seen spyware and malware that tops the horridness of what happened to the band computer. It might as well have been a terrible virus--it literally hosed the system. tons of system files were replaced, we certainly couldn't record anymore. Entire windows services were REPLACED! It was the WORST thing I've ever seen as far as that goes.

Do they have a firewall there? Man, it doesn't sound like it.

But anyway, to give another horror story of myspace, I actually had my browser hijacked there once. That is, it was sending me to a false 'myspace' that was asking me for my screen name and password. I would have totally fallen for it if a firefox warning didn't immediately come up that told me that it was a false site trying to keylog me. I didn't even know firefox gave those kind of warnings, but luckily, they do!
