Last night without warning NIN.com offered a brand new NIN album to download. For free youc an only get the first 9 tracks, or you can stream the whole thing. Or you can pay $5 for a download in lossless or 320 KBPS mp3. There are a ton of other options too, including a physical copy.
But let me just say, wow. Trent Reznor went for something totally different this time. He made a 2-disc, 36 track, ambient-instrumental album. And it totally kicks ass! Worth checking out.
PS, the web site keeps going down because of all the traffic. You can also buy his album from amazon.com mp3 section, for $5.
The name of the album is "Ghosts."

Its fixed now though, and ready for streaming!
Dude, this is a killer price. You can get it in FLAC or APPLE LOSSLESS, all 36 tracks, for $5. That is incredible.
But as you know, the streaming is free.
Let me just say, this album is one hell of a grower, too. Take that, Radiohead. hehe.

Yeah, I originally bought it off Amazon.com just to freaking GET IT, and then later ordered the phsyical copy and slightly higher quality file when the coast was semi-clear.
It should be worth noting that THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE are still downloading off the NIN.com site. Supposedly Trent Reznor received triple the amount of hits on his web site yesterday than ever on of his site at once.

This album is BY FAR my favorite work of Reznor's. Inspiring, dark, and moody in general. It has a hint to me of David Bowie's LOW album.

If you check out his web site right now (nin.com) it turns out he is encouraging peple to give their own interpretations of the music and create videos. Then he'll pick out the best one and turn it into a "film festival" where you can go watch the fan-made videos as the band performs. I consider this to be a really interesting concept.
But yeah, the album is cool. And it is being received way better than his last couple albums, that's for sure!

I wish he was still doing the thing where people can add things musically to his stuff..... there are a couple on this album that I could picture a lot of really tripped-out vocals to....

This is already a totally viable option with remix nin.com
http://remix.nin.com/
If you create a free profile you can remix anything of his however you want, including adding vocals to any of his songs. He also has the WHOLE Year Zero and Downward Spiral available as instrumentals (At like 320 kbps mp3) to download as a member, too, which means you could add different vocals to those, too.

Nice. Those ones I had downloaded previously weren't really something I could sink my teeth into vocally, but this new album there's a lot.

I never really got into NIN. I should probably give them a chance. I like Robin quite a bit. And I really like that song that Cash covered (I actually like it better than the NIN original, which is rare for me).
