I'm not trying to be funny with this at all, people need to seriously consider who the Vice President will be if the Dems win. America may be ready for a female president, and America may be ready for a black president. But some wingnut out there is not. The possibility of assassination is greatly increased no matter which of them wins. Just a thought, but not one that should be dismissed.

I don't think fear of some wingnut should guide our decision making. I think that if we did allow nuts-- and terrorists-- to make our political decisions for us we would be in a great deal of hurt. I think what counts is that we need to go with the best candidate, regardless of the threats that may come their way, and hope that they can have a full, fruitful presidency.

No, I'm not saying that. That's silly. I'm just saying that the position could possibly be more important, given the higher probability of needing to step up.

Well, I definitely can't say this with certainty, because there really is no source on this yet, but if I was a betting man-- I would say that Hillary will not be the vice Obama chooses if he wins. It would just be too contradictive for him to campaign as the candidate of "change" and then pick someone from the Clinton dynasty to be his backup.
If he is smart he will choose someone with military experience as his vice. I am hoping for Wesley Clark. The four star general. That would be swwwweeeeet!
Special note; Hillary has already mentioned -- a few months ago now-- the possibility of choosing Wesley Clark if she wins.

THere is also a strong chance that New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg will be Obama's vice.

As long as the vice chosen isn't someone like Lieberman, we should be okay. Man I still don't get what Gore was thinking in '00
As far as the potential of a wingnut trying to assasinate Obama or Hillary, I would have to agree with Hackfest that unfortunately the potential of this is actually quite large. There are some people who just can't handle the idea of a black or a woman president. I certainly don't think we should be voting based on that, but I just think knowing that this is a potential danger should make whoever we choose as vice president to be very important.
The unfortunate thing if Obama got assassinated by a wingnut is that it could potentially result in a horrible civil war.

Veep is important for McCain as well - this dude is old - which will be a concern in November. I would expect someone younger for McCain to deflect that. Perhaps Charlie Crist from Florida - that would be a smart choice.
Obama needs a white male - preferrable from a swing state. I know its sounds bad - racially and all - but I really think he needs to do it.
If strickland wasn't on the Hillary campaign, I'd suggest him. Democrats need Ohio.
Hillary's would be strickland - I'd wager on it. Again - the importance of ohio.

As long as Obama doesn't choose someone as awful as Lieberman, I think he'll be doing well.
After this whole idea of forcing parents to buy health insurance from both Clinton and Obama, I'm thinking about McCain more than ever.
As far as Charlie Crist--I think that we need to stay away from the idea of candidates being from Florida as much as possible. I think pushing a VP from Florida could really kill McCain's campaign. Florida has put a bad taste in a number of people's mouths, especially with some of the ridiculous church-and-state legislation the state has tried to push forth in recent times.
