A bitter dispute has broken out between the two main candidates for the Democratic Party nomination in next year's American presidential election.

A prominent newspaper columnist claims Hillary Clinton supporters told him her campaign has scandalous information about principal rival, Barack Obama.

Mr Obama has reacted with outrage, but the Clinton team say they know nothing about the reports.

They say he is showing his inexperience getting so worked up about them.

Daggers drawn

This is more than the normal cut and thrust of election politics.

The two campaign teams, who have been at daggers drawn for some time, are now engaged in a bizarre and furious argument which could badly damage either or both of the candidates.

It began with a respected right-wing columnist suggesting that Clinton staff had told him they had unspecified scandalous information about Barack Obama which they had decided not to use.

Instead of ignoring the report, Mr Obama, the young and charismatic black senator from Illinois, personally intervened to call on Mrs Clinton to make the information public immediately or concede that it did not exist.

"Renounce these tactics," he demanded.

The Clinton team say they know nothing about the reports and Senator Obama is showing his inexperience getting so worked up about them.

Conspiracy theorists are having a field day wondering who might stand to benefit from this battle.

Democratic voters begin to have their say in the Iowa caucuses now just seven weeks away.

What do you all make of this?

Yeah. Well here is the thing. Frankly, I would find it HILARIOUS if while these two bicker at each other and try to slander each other's campaign, if Edwards took it, lol. Talk about what would be an unexpected blow!

But having said that, I do not like Edwards. His comments about blacks in college showed how ignorant he is. His stance on mandatory government health checkups-- no thanks. Campaigning while his wife dies of cancer? What an asshole. Alluding to the death of his son ALL THE FREAKING TIME for sympathy votes-- disgusting. His debating skills, lame. And then of course you know he isn't exactly pro gay marriage either.

He is probably my least favorite nominee. Hillary being my second least favorite nominee. But still, it would just be ironic to see him take it after all this hype and hoopla between the other two.

No kidding. Made me wonder. Does that mean at one point it will be mandatory for you to take antidepressants, otherwise they will drop you from coverage? What kind of stuff might the government force people to take in the future under these circumstances....

Novak has many Repub contacts and this is not something that will stick around without more info. This looks like just another dirty trick of politicians. Where are the specifics?

Anyway--yeah, that's a scary thing. Mandatory medications is truly a scary thing. That's getting into THX1138 territory right there. Drug evasion is illegal. Surprised
