Personally I would slide Greenday from Overrated to simply Overplayed. I think it's difficult to have been consistent as they have been without have a great deal of talent.

But let me add.

Overrated: Brittany Spears

Overplayed: Anything in the Rap/Hip-Hop/R&B/Pop/RockPop genres.

Underrated: Rufus Wainwright, Fiona Apple, Macy Gray, to mention just a few.

Now that I've been listening to him a bit more--I think you might have mentioned him in another thread in the past--or someone has. I'm glad he was brought to my attention again. Smile

Well I'm sure I've brought him up. LOL I love his voice...

Dream: Rufus Wainwright singing only to me.

Reality: I'm playing my Rufus Wainwright CD's eating a pint of ice cream.

LOL

What would you consider his best album or song?

Well commercially speaking I would say Poses. It provides largest hits I would say. But as far as artistic quality? That's hard. It's pretty hard to top Poses, but the Want albums are fantastic. It's a transitional period filled with growth and reflection.

EDIT: Let me clarify something. I don't think that Poses did the best at the time, but I think had it been released today it would be more in line. My favorite song of his is likely "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk". But there are sooooo many good ones.

Radiohead underrated? Well frankly, I don't know how they could be rated any higher. My magazine said their latest was the best album of the year, rolling stone put it in the top 5, and over at RYM not only is their recent one In Rainbows Rated best of 2007, but Ok Computer is rated 8th best album OF ALL TIME along with being best album of 1997. I don't really know how they could be rated any higher. There is no way OK Computer deserves a greater honor than it got. In fact, I think it may be a bit overrated, even if I like it a lot. (ITs just that there are more than 7 albums that have come out since the beginning of time that are better. I would still give it a 4-5/5 but there are probably 100 albums I would give a 5 to.)

Overrated:
Kanye West
Aerosmith
Linkin Park
A Perfect Circle
Fallout Boy
Dave Matthews Band
John Mayor

Underrated:

Modwheelmood
The Cardigans
Aphex Twin

Underplayed:
Tom Waits
M.I.A.

Overplayed:

Green Day
Linkin Park
Panic! At The Disco
Fallout Boy
(And all of the many, many impotent rock bands that are played on modern radio.)
Kanye West
50 Cent
(And all the highly, highly overrated rap artists that suck monkey penis while cultural icons like M.I.A. go unknown to the mainstream populace.)

The group reaction is the only cool thing about that song.

Hey JQ--did you ever see this (
It was a song of Aphex Twin that had a strange sounding section in it--and when you run the song through a certain type of waveform analyzer):

Yeah, I really tripped out when I first saw this. I think it's interesting that one can even do something like that. When you hear it, it just seems like digital noise mixed in with the music--it sounds like sound effects, but there it is--an image. There's some other artist who put pictures of their cats in a couple songs.
