Wait, does this mean I won't be the only person who isn't a Dem here? That could be nice . . .

lol, the community is getting more diverse all the time! And I think so long as people debate fairly, without any slander, we all have a lot to gain from hearing different perspectives. I definitely look forward to Red State Rebel's contributions. In general, I have found his participation at otl to add some color to the debates.
EDIT: for the record too, you should know that I wouldn't call myself a democrat, Hackfest. I lean liberally on social issues but have plenty of beefs with our local democratic legislature in the seattle area, particularly concerning transit. The reason why I am called "liberal" at otl is because I can't figure out to change my title to "centrist."

Thank you all for the warm welcome.
Though Kizz and I usually disagree politically on the other forum, I have a great deal of admiration for his honest style. We could use more of that on both sides of the aisle.
As noted - I am a republican with a few departures from the party line:
I hate the Iraq war and was against it from the start. I want out now.
Gun Control - the GoP and I disagree.
Abortion - I am pro choice.
Gay rights - I'm very much for civil unions and equal rights in the military and everywhere else.
i voted for a Democrat in the last election (Sen. Nelson D-FL)
On a personal note - My wife and I live in Tampa Bay with our 18 month daughter - working hard to make ends meet - like many of us.

Well, as I have been changing quite a bit lately (particularly since the spiritual incident), I might be agreeing with you more often than you think.
I really feel like I am going through a major transformation, and it's kind-of scary and confusing.

I understand that jq, but in order to have that diversity that you speak of, it will behoove us to have more than one conservative on the forums. I have taken note however, that you cannot be categorized as a democrat, just as I cannot be categorized a republican. I am moderate to liberal on some issues. I think that there aren't too many of us who are straight ticket.

We may have had a mistunderstanding-- I was saying that it is a good thing to have RSR here because it adds diversity to the group. It may be possible that my first line seemed sarcastic, but I was being serious; we are getting more diversified all the time, and that is a very good thing

Have you written about your spiritual incident? I wasn't aware of this and would be interesting in knowing.

It was like the universe was pushing me back into place, but it seemed like it had a personality to it, which makes it seem more like the description of "God" more than the universe theory--so my whole take on things started to change. I started to think about the fact that I felt like I could be judged for talking about that, then I realized how poorly religions have been viewed, especially over the past 6 years. It's sad when people have to feel like they can't talk about positive things that they feel passionate about without being labeled as a kook or as inappropriate.
When it happened, I became weak, in tears, and the thought that kept going through my mind, over and over again was, "What do you want me to do?" It lasted for about 45 seconds, a very intense 45 seconds, and then I still felt the presence but it wasn't like he was putting his hand/finger/spirit/whatever on me like it was for those 45 seconds.
It was really something beyond words.
