| Quote: | Despite opposition from numerous parents and children?s rights advocates, a public health advisory panel voted on Monday to require all children in New Jersey who attend preschool or are in day care to get annual flu vaccinations.
Before the vote, some parents who believe in a link between vaccinations and autism spoke against the proposal, but state officials said they did not believe there was such a connection. |
Besides the mercury.
If a flu shot wasn't something that had to be gotten over and over again every year, you know, like normal shots that are supposed to build up your immunities to something, I could see it, but this is a yearly thing. This is outrageous. I hope a lot of people move away from New Jersey over this. What a bunch of crap!
This is WORSE than putting fluoride in the water! This is just so stupid!

I don't see why this is bad. The flu shots will likely help you, not hurt you,and it helps to have more people resistant to the newest flu strains before they are around other people in a public institution. It will also hopefully prevent absences by sickness. I doubt the health panel/doctors are recommending it for the hell of it. They probably have a good reason...being experts on this subject, and all.

"likely" isn't good enough. If they got it down to where it actually works and doesn't have to be taken yearly, I could see it. This is a travesty. Some people react really poorly to the shots too, and now we're going to force this on them. This is WRONG WRONG WRONG!

I think the problem with flu is that it mutates very quickly, so I doubt we will ever have long-term solutions via vaccine. The flu is a tough little thing. I think people ought to get flu shots for their own benefit, but I also try to think of society. If they get it, they are less apt to spread the form, and it likely increase productivity.
The people who are adversely affected by vaccinations is very, very small.
Force is an issue, but we force people to do a lot of things (including other vaccinations). Some work places often require it, as well.

There are people in my family who are allergic to some of the extras they put into the flu shot--it's mostly likely the mercury. My grandma became deathly ill both times she tried getting one. This may not be very common, but it happens enough that it shouldn't be mandatory, especially since it's only good for a year.
