How could I have sided with them?
I don't care how much people are being oppressed, killing innocent children via one's own children ON PURPOSE--there is NO excuse for that. NONE. There are some beliefs that are just unacceptable--period. I just can't understand the idea of putting YOUR OWN CHILDREN out to kill themselves. What kind of hope does it give them? That they can be victorious?
There is so much hate on both sides, there is NO chance of the warring ever ending, and so many of them want to drag other countries into the whole thing--like 9/11. It's really stupid. I wish we'd just cut support and trade with the whole region, including Israel. Then nobody could claim preferential treatment. An even better idea would be to simply teleport the whole chunk of land to a colony on Mars. Yeah, that's it.
I've been anti-Israel for a long time. I still feel they do some questionable things, but one thing is certain--I now believe the other side to be MUCH much worse.
The story I'm seeing out there about the terrorist ramming a schoolbus just really pisses me off. Why is there not more outrage at these things?
I always try to believe there are two sides to every story--actually, there are usually 3 sides to every story. In this case, I really am starting to question that philosophy. There really is no excuse for what these people are doing.
Fine--people have taken your home--that means you send your children out to die?
When people have proud ignorance, there are problems. There are unfortunately a lot of people out there who are proudly ignorant. Proud ignorance breeds stupidity if you ask me. Maybe I'm wrong. Not all stupid people are proudly ignorant, but all proudly igorant people at the very least make themselves stupid.
Christianity learned about this a while back--with everything that's around, why is it taking so long--oh yeah--they take it literally and to do otherwise would be sacreligious in those countries.
I am not anti-muslim--in fact, I've considered looking into an offshoot of it (Sufism) as a belief, but it's not the ugly aspects of it, just as there are Christians who believe hateful things as there are those that believe in loving things.
I really can't side with the Palestinians like I have in the past. If they don't want to be perceived like they are, they need to make a life in the place that they say is bombarding them--they need to find a way, because if they don't, they WILL be perceived as supporting the suicide bombers, and sending out children to die.
This is more of a rant than anything--there's nothing that I'm saying can be done about anything, there's nothing that I'm saying I wish could be done about anything, it's just a rant, but whatever. Maybe something can be made out of it.

Eventually we will cut off aid to the middle east. When it is no longer in our national interest what happens there. eg: when we don't need their oil anymore.
Think of Africa - its gonna be like our interest in that continent - minimal.

I'm going to have to disagree about Africa. I think if we keep needing oil, we will eventually invest a lot of interest in Africa, which still has many untapped reserves, (and a lot of religious extremism.) But I otherwise appreciate the concept-- and agree fully-- that it will be a very beautiful thing when we quit giving these people money.
Kizz, Israel is guilty of all kinds of things. They really have done a lot of terrible things to the palestinian people. Having said that, palestinian people are just as bad. And worse are the Saudi's, or the Sudanese. Did you see the freakout over the teddy bear in Sudan. Give me a damn break! The teacher wasn't even intentionally being disrespectful. How dare her name a teddy bare after Muhammed. She meant no disrespect, and now they want her murdered. Unbelievable!

I'm going to have to disagree about Africa. I think if we keep needing oil, we will eventually invest a lot of interest in Africa, which still has many untapped reserves, (and a lot of religious extremism.) Yes, Israel does awful things, but I think people sending their kids to explode themselves in the middle of a place that kills a bunch of other kids is--well--there's nothing to compare it to. It's the most wretched mindset I can think of. How can parents send their kids to do something like that? Oh yeah--religious extremism because they're used to the state being tied to their beliefs.
As far as that teacher--I don't think she was being very intelligent when she chose to do what she did--let me paraphrase that--she was really stupid for doing that. It wasn't putting two and two together and getting four. When you are in a different culture, you cannot forget for one moment about the possible ramifications for things. Naming a teddy bear Mohammad? That was an extremely stupid thing to do.
I personally think we should completely leave the countries alone that tie their religion to their government. Let's stay out of their business and hopefully they'll stay out of ours. A little late for me to have that attitude now eh? Clinton's aspirin factory bombings and other things sure didn't help, and our constant sanctions really didn't help.
I wish I knew of an answer to this.
