I posted this before, but it limited it to "top 10 favorites"--when I read what I had posted before, posted in a numbered fashion, I realized that the order I had them in was all wrong. So, in no particular order:

Crosby Stills and Nash -- Guinevere
Vangelis -- Rachel's Song
Wendy Carlos - Lightcycles
Shirley Bassey -- Diamonds are Forever
Stereolab -- Baby Lulu
Chicago -- Goodbye
Antonio Carlos Jobim -- Antigua
Bill Bruford -- Gothic 17

Albums

The Beatles -- The White Album
Pink Floyd -- The Wall
David Bowie -- Low
Yes -- Fragile
Vangelis -- Blade Runner
Wendy Carlos -- Tron
Pink Floyd -- Dark Side of the Moon
ELO/Olyvia Newton-John -- Xanadu
Steely Dan -- Aja
Elton John -- Tumbleweed Connection
Bill Bruford -- Master Strokes

Bill Bruford -- Master Strokes

I find that interesting. I love his presence in King Crimson. I may check that out some time soon!

Kizzume wrote:

David Bowie -- Low

Yes. Oh yes. It is between that and Hunky Dory for best Bowie album. I go between them both frequently as the favorite.

Kizzume wrote:

Steely Dan -- Aja

Funny story. I am a big fan of Steely Dan, and as you can see my favs are Katie Lied, and The Royal Scam. For some reason I could never get into Aja.

Yes -- Fragile

I still need to try this one!

Kizzume wrote:

The Beatles -- The White Album

Oh yeah, that's a good one. My personal favorite of theirs though will always be a hard day's night.

Have you heard their whole catalogue yet? If not, how about In The Court of King Crimson? If you haven't heard it I highly recommend it Wink I will agree with you that Red is super good and I like Larks 3rd best to In The Court of King Crimson

Lizard is also really good, but a distant 4th I'd say compared to the best three. I also really like Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With. And I hated Discipline.

MY TRYOUT LIST:

Music by Gentle Giant

Yes-- Fragile

I am going to see if I can't put those on hold at my library right now Cool

The Court of the Crimson King wasn't bad, but it was one of my least favorites FROM THAT BAND. It may have been the poor recording quality--it just sounds awful.

Hmm, I wonder if you got one that was poorly compressed or sumpthin. I mean it was recorded in 1969, but most people think that's the best Crimson album ever. (And if you compare it to the others on RYM, it is considered to be the best, and the 45th best album of all time Surprised I tend to go between that one and Red.

It sounds like it was recorded in 1969 in a garage.

I don't think they truly got interesting until after that period.

I'm not saying the music is bad, I'm saying the recording is bad and that it became BETTER--recording wise AND technical/experimental/dark-wise after that album. I would certainly choose that album over most rock out there right now, that's for sure.

Do you like Talking Heads? Heard Remain in LIght?

I am suffering from a bad situation. I just bought another Talking Heads album and it was no go. I have listened to pretty much their whole catalogue, and the only album of theirs I like is Remain in LIght. But I don't just like Remain in Light. I love Remain in Light. It is one of my fav albums of all time. So you'd think I could get into their other stuff. But it just isn't happening. I can't do it. I don't like any of it. I thought I would like Fear of Music since it also involved Eno. Apparently, it didn't involve him enough ;(

An album I really like that most people don't by Stone Temple Pilots is Songs From the Vatican Gift Shop. My favorite song of theirs of all time is "and so I know", and it's on that album. But the whole album's sound quality is horrible...
