For me, it's usually between 18-24 seconds, I do a thorough lather immediately, and then continue that same scrubbing-moving motion under the water for the remainder of the time.

If I'm going for the surgeon type of scrub, it's usually more like 50 seconds--25 seconds of lathering, and 25 seconds of rinsing.
For me, unless one gets ALL the soap off, one might as well still have the nastyness on their hands. Usually it takes at least 10 seconds of thorough rubbing/rinsing to not have that chemical/detergent/lather-agent feel left anywhere on my hands. If it's dish soap, it usually takes 15-18 seconds of rinsing.

OK what is your obsession with hygiene? Are you getting ready for bed while posting?

Naw, just some questions I've wondered about for a while but never bothered to ask.

I usually do it for about 20 seconds. I don't sit there and count, but I would approximate that. I don't like to waste water, so I turn it off until I am ready to rinse, and then that takes maybe 6 second.

If I've just handled raw chicken or something, I take a surgeon approach--it's usually about 50 seconds. Otherwise, it's the 18-24 seconds...
