Just thought I would let you know that Windows Defender, too, is a resource hog if you decide to use it. I am so annoyed at all the agony I have gone through the past couple days trying to record music on my computer, thinking my computer couldn't handle all the tracks I was recording, and THEN, finding out that when I disable windows defender, IT RUNS GREAT.
Now I don't need to do pull any tricks for that track. In fact, it records fine now. I went through over an hour of trying to cut tracks everytime they went quiet, ETC, when ALL I HAD TO DO WAS DISABLE WINDOWS DEFENDER.
I thought I had a bad virus or that my computer was finally dying. But the emachines trucks on. And yet again, as I have often never learned from my mistakes, I am reminded once again that anti-spyware programs are indeed a selfish resource whore!
(For the record, I didn't even know the windows defender ran in the background.)
I can't believe how smoothly my computer is running now....

I re-disabled automatic updates and the background intelligent transfer service about a week ago and I removed windows defender from my machine after finding out the same thing. From the way it acts, I sometimes wonder whether it's really just checking for spyware and such or whether it's a DRM extension.

Well you could have let me know it was a bad program
No kidding-- Yet another spyware program gets exposed and falls through the cracks ]
Just to let you know, I am now going through my test run of AVG FREE Anti-Spyware. So far, I love it. BUT, I will keep you posted.
Kind of interesting aside:
Windows defender-- never found anything on my computer.
Spyware Terminator-- Rarely but occasionally found cookies.
Norton Free-- Nada. Never.
Spybot-- Occasional, but more on the rare side
Ad-aware-- always finds something
Spyware doctor-- had EXCELLENT detection, but had VERY weird effects on computer. I googled it, and some people claim it is actually a spyware itself.
A-Squared-- Rarely finds anything small but when I had something really bad on my computer and it wasn't detected by others, it was detected by A-squared. Also supposedly monitors for government spywares.
Pest Patrol-- Finds something regularly and has BY FAR THE FASTEST SCANNER THERE IS IN THE WORLD. (Takes about 4-7 seconds to quick scan. Excellent for emergencies)
AVG Anti-Spyware-- Found an AMAZING amount of stuff on my computer the first time I ran it. We are talking, 110 different bad things were detected!!!!!! I don't know how this can be since I am ALWAYS testing my computer with a program or two, EVERY NIGHT. But nontheless it did, which makes it a very interesting prospect.
AVG- Anti Spyware has the ability to run in the background but isn't a necessity. I currently do not have it running in that background. Less invasive than regular AVG (Doesn't just decide whenever to update as soon as I turn the computer on.)

Hey--I just found this out last week and that was my busiest week--I was preparing for the show and meetup with the record execs.
AVG free antivirus is rubbish--I am surprised their antispyware seems even slightly decent.

I know you were busy. And obviously, I am very happy about your good news in regards to the potential record contract.
As for AVG I will agree it is definitely crappy. The spyware program, being newer, apparently improves on their mistakes from the past (so far.) It is still on its "beta" run with me.

Please keep me informed. I'll totally be willing to try it out if it really continues to do a good job like you have said
