That would certainly help--but then again, some kids are good at deceiving people, some kids can make themselves look like angels when they are not.

I never thought I would say this, but considering the recent public shootings, maybe the people with permits should be allowed to carry weapons on campuses. I saw on the news that certain states were considering this. It might actually come down to this because there is no way that police officers or campus security can respond fast enough to these shootings, unless there is a police officer in every lecture hall. The other extreme would be a door-to-door search and removal of all firearms from the general population in America.

And that other extreme would pretty much be the equivalent to martial law, something we should all be very afraid of, and I think if the government attempted it, we would have a civil war that could easily destroy this country.

Yeah, you are probably right about that.
When my husband and I were living near Pensacola, we got caught in the path of hurricane Ivan. As that storm was about to hit the Gulf Coast, officials informed the public that they would NOT be able to respond to any 911 calls until after the storm was over. Basically, they were saying to the public, “YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN.” I am also starting to think the same way about the frequent public shootings. Personally, I do not have very much confidence in law enforcement responding in a timely fashion. These shootings seem to transpire very quickly without any warning, and law enforcement officers seem to show up after-the-fact. What that means; people need to figure out a way to protect themselves in public. This does not necessarily mean that everyone should go out and purchase a handgun, although that may be one option. At least being aware of your surroundings and able to locate the nearest exits in public buildings would be a good start. This may sound paranoid, but what else is there left to do?

Looks like another senseless shooting in America with more innocent people being gunned down. I must be getting cynical because I am starting to think that it is just not safe to be anywhere in public. The safest place is probably at home.

"60-year-old gunman - Alburn Edward Blake of West Palm Beach"
This is very odd. Why would someone in their 60's do this? We can't attribute this to bullying at school. Is it the economy? Is it healthcare? What in the world would make someone 60 years old do this?
I was hoping this trend would only remain as a juvenile or college thing, but now we have to worry about senior citizens going on shooting rampages?

I have no idea about the cause, but there seems to be a hellish trend occurring in the US when it comes to suicide. Instead of people just ending their own lives (the old fashion way) by whatever means they have, some people in our modern society now feel compelled to kill innocent people in the process by using guns. About the victim in the Wendy's shooting:
The 42-year-old victim, a Palm Beach County Fire-Rescue lieutenant who was not in uniform, had met his wife and child at the restaurant during a break in training down the street, Deputy Fire-Rescue Chief Steve Delai said. The family had gotten their food and walked out, but the man returned because the free toy was missing from the kids' meal, he said.
The lieutenant was shot in the back as he stood at the counter.
