Really good flick - I definitely did not have it figured by the end! Surprising how good Casey Afleck was - the wrong brother got famous, for sure!

I hadn't heard of the movie before, but I've been out-of-the-loop for a while, so I looked it up on IMDB. This is what a couple people said the plot was:
| Quote: | When 4 year old Amanda McCready disappears from her home and the police make little headway in solving the case, the girl's aunt Beatrice McCready hires two private detectives Patrick Kenzie and Angie Gennaro. The detective freely admit that they have little experience with this type of case, but the family wants them for two reasons - they're not cops and they know the tough neighborhood in which they all live. As the case progresses, Kenzie and Gennaro face drug dealers, gangs and pedophiles. When they finally solve the case, they are faced with a moral dilemma that tears them apart. Written by garykmcd
Dorchester, one of the toughest neighborhoods in all of Boston, is no place for the weak or innocent. Its a territory defined by hard heads and even harder luck, its streets littered with broken families, hearts, dreams. When one of its own, a 4-year-old girl, goes missing, private investigators Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro don't want the case. But after pleas from the child's aunt, they open an investigation that will ultimately risk everything -- their relationship, their sanity, and even their lives -- to find a little girl-lost. Do these match what the movie was about to you?

Well, they are a good plot synopsis.
I think the moral dilemma that was briefly mentioned in one of them has a lot more to do with what it's 'about.'
It is certainly good for a discussion after the movie is over about whether or not the right choices were made.
edited to add: and the woman who plays the girl's mother is AWESOME ... definitely Oscar worthy performance (even though we know she won't get it)
