When it comes to most rap, if it's not talking about bling, or hoes and bitches, or hydraulics, it's usually stuff that I can't understand what they're saying. To me, this is what most rap lyrics sound like to me:

I'm so glad I'm basically done with this rant. It was good to get this out.
I was recently reminded of a number of good hip-hop and rap groups, and it put me back into a non-emotional perspective on this whole thing.
I was also reminded that some of my fear of the hip-hop community is just flat-out paranoia, which it is.

So, are you changing your mind on this matter? Because I saw some really valid points in what you were saying.

No, I'm not changing my mind on this matter--I still think the music is damaging, but some other things I said weren't exactly that great, but I guess I wasn't as much of an ass about it on THIS forum as I was on a couple other forums, I got pretty nasty on the following thread:
http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/off-topic/6971-whats-hip-hop-rap.html
My handle is Fmeh there.

I still think MTV needs to learn a LOT about ethics and morals.
How about how things like "Jackass" is marketed to kids too. It's awful.

Well, the link I had to that other forum wasn't acting quite right....
I shouldn't have been apologetic about that hip-hop thread. I had originally thought that I had said as many things as were in the Second Life forum, SL Universe,
http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/off-topic/6971-whats-hip-hop-rap.html
but I hadn't, and I REALLY went off on that forum about it and "I think" I got a little carried away, although I meant every word--but I was EXTREMELY abrasive in the way I talked about it, and I was primarily apologizing for being an ass because I really could have used more tact--ON THAT THREAD, but not on my forum where I really never went off like I did on the SL Universe forum.
Go ahead and check out that thread if you want to see me really go off on the subject. I wasn't really getting any input on it on THIS thread here on my forum--it was a really slow time for my forum, so I was kind-of talking to myself for a while.
I really do feel that the music has negatively affected so many things, and the fact that MTV and so many other places are promoting it is quite frankly disgusting.
Interestingly enough, the band I'm in, The Mercury Rising, has been doing a lot of talking about our future plans--like 2 or 3 years from now. We're actually thinking about moving to somewhere in Europe. It seems this whole gangster hip-hop mindset is NOT prevalent there AT ALL, in addition to us being able to make more experimental music and still bring in a huge audience over there. Over here, people really seem to actually WANT the crap we're hearing on the radio, besides the whole hip-hop/rap stuff--rock is in a terrible state right now, country is more generic than ever, jazz isn't in the picture at all, dance music sounds all the same--it's always that same generic techno standard beat, and just in general it seems like here in the United States, people seem to be losing their abilities to be really creative--everything's a like a clone, and it's quite sad.
In addition to that, there's the healthcare aspect to Europe, but that really should be for another thread.
