The problem that I have with O'Reilly, and why I put him in the same category as Pat Robertson, is that he believes that everyone should have to walk around pretending they're a Christian, and that doing otherwise could be "harmful to children". He also believes that the United States is and always has been a "Christian nation" with laws that are to be based on the Bible--those kinds of ideals go hand-in-hand with dominionism, something Pat Robertson talks about quite a bit.

The idea of a theocracy scares the crap out of me, and people like Pat Robertson, James Dobson, and yes, Bill O'Reilly scare the crap out of me because of their desire to make this country a theocracy (they word it so much "nicer" then that). Bill O'Reilly may not directly talk about his religion, but he talks about and completely sides on the issues that religious religious extremists like Pat Robertson do. The fact that people CAN'T seem to see how much people that are like Robertson/Dobson/O'Reilly TRULY want to change this country is downright scary to me. They use the "happy holidays" vs "merry Christmas", "creationism" vs "darwinism", and a whole slough of things to try to get people to believe that Christianity is literally being stamped out and that we need to work hard to make sure that doesn't happen so we can "take back this country". TAKE BACK THIS COUNTRY?!?! That's what they say. That's why I fear them. That's why I generally take what they say as far as social commentary with a grain of salt as far as how they feel about what's happening socially to the country, other than to be aware of what the neo-con religious whackjobs are trying to push out at this time.

To me, they are downright scary people. Just because O'Reilly doesn't talk about his religion doesn't mean he doesn't support dominionist theory.

You are right, and let's add people like Falwell (Dead) and Jon Hagee into the mix. These people feed off hatred. They claim to support a loving God filled with grace, but it's all a facade. Hate and fear draws them money and power.

I have no hatred for Jesus as explained in the Bible, but I do think his evangelical believers are a**holes!

... just remember, there are millions and millions of us Christians who have no desire WHATSOEVER to have our beliefs forced on ANYBODY.

Just because the loud-mouthed assholes get all the attention from the media, don't mistake that for them being the majority of Christians.

I agree. If the post wouldn't have said "evangelical believers", I would have disagreed with his post.
