Iron Man was the shit. Plain and simple. I thought it might be another bastardized comic book adventure not unlike "Ghostrider" or "The Hulk" (not the new one coming out with Edward Norton, the one that came out before then.) Luckily, this movie kicked total ass.
The acting was as good as I have seen in a superhero movie (Better than any batman or superman incarnation I have experienced,) not just from the major players, either, but a lot of the smaller roles, like Iron Man's housekeeper. Can't remember her name. She did one hell of a job playing her part though.
Excellent acting, plenty of humor (nothing worse than a superhero movie that is void of humor-- see Batman Begins or Ghostrider for details) and not without the action scenes we all come to expect in cinema. What puts this above the other hero movies is simply that it isn't ONLY action. Luckily, for once, we have a hero movie which revolves just as much around the characters as their many feats.
There were a few silly moments, but none that cannot be excepted or anticipated in a superhero movie.

Thanks so much for these reviews of the very movies I'm planning on seeing 
I have been very skeptical of the reviews I've seen of this movie, it's good to know that the hype of this movie might actually stack up to something

I'd say you have to be careful about feeling too hyped about any movie, honestly. To give you frame of reference, I saw this movie with three others. None of us 4 anticipated it being very good at all since so many hero movies have sucked.
With that in mind, we were very pleasantly surprised. If I came into the movie anticipating best super hero movie ever though, I may have held it to an unfair or impossible standard that would have led to a lower rating. I'd definitely say it is a worthy contender of any hero movie currently out though, by a long shot.
(The worst I have seen are the Fantastic 4 movies and then the second worst is the Hulk movie that is already out. By contrast, The X-Men movies have been pretty good while I'd say of the above mentioned Iron Man was certainly the best. I have not seen Daredevil and have inherent biases against Spiderman's character so I cannot comment in regards to those two others.)
Also, as far as democracy goes-- all three of the people I went with thought the movie greatly exceeded their expectations and a friend of mine who saw it without me agreed. That makes the movie 5/5 in terms of popular vote with people I know who've seen it.
