It is by far the worst thing Microsoft has done to an operating system.
Yeay, you can find pictures and music easily. If you want to find anything else, forget it.
I did a search with Vista in a folder on my XP drive for *.exe
What did it come up with?
0 results. This is after I've checked the box to assure that it will search directories that aren't indexed, and I've even made sure it is searching inside archived files.
Yep, you read right, ZERO RESULTS.
Then I went to a handy-dandy little search tool I found, Agent Ransack: http://www.mythicsoft.com/download/agentran.exe
When I did the same search, it found well over 700 results.
Hmm, what do I want to use? The one that gives 0 results, or the one that gives over 700 results. It is very clear to me that Vista's search options SUCKS ASS!!
What the hell was Microsoft thinking with this one? Competition with Google Desktop?
Oh well, at least I have an alternative.

Okay, so I'm a total dufus. The biggest boneheaded dufus around I am. Yep, a dufus.
I've been trying to hit ctrl + f each time I do a search. Duh. Me and trying to zone out toolbars. Really there's no excuse.
It's right there at the top Brandon! It's right there! Brandon! Hello!!!! McFly! Every directory you're in Brandon, it's right there at the top.
Man.... they made something easier and I thought they made it harder.
Let it be known that I'm a dufus.

I also thought that the search option at the top of each window was an IE toolbar to search with their MSN engine, which is what I meant by "me and trying to zone out toolbars".

I was also going to suggest that you deselect "hide filetypes for known extensions"
