I had to ban a user for the first time.

I have banned carls143 for being nothing but a spambot. He/she/it may have posted spam about movies, but it was spam nevertheless. I sent the user several messages saying that if he/she/it did not respond with anything other than more spam that he/she/it would be banned.

I will not tolerate spam here. I know this forum may not be very popular right now, but that doesn't mean that I want spam here to keep a traffic flow. I'd rather have quality than quantity, although I'm sure that some of my posts have been frivolous. Laughing

I'm pretty sure he wasn't even really a user anyway. I mean, it used the message board, but I'm pretty sure it was ONLY a spambot and not an actual human being.

It was quite a sophisticated spambot for being able to get through the security measures (questions and answers) to register on this forum. Before I had this security, I was having to delete 15 fake accounts a day--this was before they even had a chance to post--those fake accounts would have links to porn all over them.

I've just never seen a spammer like this before--generally it's for something that could benefit the person who set it up. How is posting commercials for movies beneficial to someone? What companies are involved with this sort of thing? It's just a very odd spambot.
