Someone can "believe" they are right about a subject like this, but to claim that you "know" you're right seems a bit---what's the word I'm trying to find.... well, it's a stretch and doesn't seem very genuine. There's another word that describes this but for the life of me I can't think of it.

As far as what you have said in this message--this was the most articulate and least-hate-filled version of your message you've posted here yet. I agree with most of your points.

However--there is the other side of the coin. People who do not preach to others who just happen to say something that shows that they believe in God often start getting plowed into in ways that are not cool. Christians have been made to feel really bad about themselves. This may be because of the Pat Robertson types who ruin it for the good people, but still, this happens on a regular basis. Very few Christians I personally know try to convert me--they'll be happy to talk about it if I ask them about it, but they haven't tried to convert me.

There are people who try to convert on all sides. It is my opinion that the ones who go off HARD about how awful religion is at the drop of a hat are the ones who are trying to convert people to non-religion, which to me is often worse because it quite frankly has MUCH more hate in it.

That's a tough one, because the essence of most religion is keeping faith. The power of your faith is weighed heavily in how far you have come with God. So, to have total faith would to believe the religion and God you follow is without a shadow of a doubt the truth is almost essential to the teachings. On the other hand, even Jesus had moments of doubt, and it also speaks heavily in the Bible about staying humble, so when people arrogantly claim that they are right and you are wrong, they are still betraying their doctrine, though in false light they may believe they are doing right by keeping the faith.

I don't believe you can convert people, honestly, through calling them stupid or through saying they are going to hell. What i mean is, the best way to get people intrested in your belief system--whether it be atheism or Christianity-- is leading a life of kindness and fairness. I am completely turned off by people who want to bash and desecrate religion and God. I feel the same way about people who stand at the street corner in Kent holding up signs about how we are all doomed and going to hell. To both of them I say, "no thank you, not interested, don't care." But when a friend of mine is truly happy, and a good person, I am much more interested in hearing their perspective on the world, and their perspective is given a lot more clout.
