There's another forum where someone talked about MISSING the flavor of cigarettes. He said that it tasted good, and that entire concept just boggles my mind, so I asked this:
If you think cigarettes taste good:
What in the world is "good" about the flavor of cigarettes? Just to see if I could taste anything pleasurable to see what people are talking about "MY brand tastes much better than THAT brand", at different times I've taken a couple puffs before on a Marlboro, a Winston, a GPC, a Camel, and some menthol brand that only makes menthol (I can't remember which one), and as I could tell slight differences between them, it was generally a god-awful flat-out ashtray flavor that seems very similar to the second-hand version, with the exception of the menthol one that had a slightly-different afterflavor.
Is this "good" in the sense of when people test really and truly stinky cheese, or really bitter wines, or really bitter beers, to where it's an acquired thing, or was this flavor something that you enjoyed the first time you did it?
If it was the first time you did it, please enlighten the people who do not understand as to what it is you LIKE about the flavor--what does the flavor remind you of?

I smoked for over 15 years. It is an acquired taste. Once you're fully hooked, at least was the case for me, they really do taste good. But I think part of that is the relaxation they bring. They didn't always taste good though, even as a seasoned smoker. It was similar for me with weed, which I still think tastes good, but only because I acquired that taste. My body used to hurt until I smoked weed every day after work. It took a long time of not smoking for that to go away. For years I hated them and really wanted to quite, but just could not. They didn't taste as good during that time. As a side note, is your brother still smoking heavy like he was? That guy needs to quit for real. He'd be so much happier. I just know it. The money, the energy. He'd dig it.

I just think my brother is on a downward spiral that will probably end up with my mom and I taking care of him when his health goes down the toilet. He treats his body SO poorly--he eats once a day, sometimes just once every other day, and fills up on coffee with half-and-half and cigarettes, and he has done this for years. I'm seeing hints of some really bad things.
I guess I can't talk on the health aspects since I overeat and am back up to 230 again, but then again, I think eating too much and being fat is a lot less harsh on the body than constantly keeping one's body on the edge of starvation and pumping one's body full of caffeine and nicotine every day to "make up for it".
Honestly though, I thought weed tasted good the very first time. Call me crazy if you will, but I've always thought there was something actually pleasant about the smell of a skunk, and thought it was almost like skunk incense or something. I like skunky beer brands though too (not "skunky" as in beer that is bad, but actually skunky).

Yeah, like a Heineken or something to that effect. Kinda skunky in a great way. Ever since I started smoking weed, whenever I smell a skunk, I actually inhale deeper. I love it. As far as your brother goes, I just don't fully get that. I mean, he spent his whole life preaching to people about the health dangers of so many things, yet he is destroying himself. I really hope he pulls out, even at the cost of something drastic making that happen. I really think a big part of that is depression for him. He always told me how much his life sucked and how he never did anything that mattered to him besides making music. I always got the feeling that he felt he could have been so much more, and that aided in his self destructive thinking when he spent so long realizing that wasn't happening. On top of that, spending your whole life at a PC and wasting away in your usually filthy apartment, save for a few trips to into nature, has got to take a tole on well being and self esteem. I hope I don't seem out of line in saying all this, because your brother and I were really close for a long time back in the day and I don't feel like I'm just someone in passing simply because him and I haven't hung out for the last 5 years.

He hasn't even done the nature thing really anymore, and he hasn't worked on any significant new songs in a few years either. It's all about DF2 and now DFX. I like DFX, but it's not my life. The band has sort-of been my life though, but that's a serious goal that we have and we're working hard to achieve that goal.
